Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari's Senior Assistant for Media and Public Affairs, Mallam Garba Shehu, has confirmed that the President has been isolated following his return from his London trip in accordance with COVID-19 procedures.
Shehu disclosed that the president and members of his
delegation would be isolated in accordance with the National Center for Disease
Control (NCDC) guidelines for international travel.
According to Shehu, President Buhari and his travel companions
underwent the mandatory PCR test on Friday, August 13, and will undergo a
second test days later.
The president and some Nigerian officials reportedly
contacted the Nigerian High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, some of whom
tested positive for COVID-19.
The President and those who accompanied him to the United
Kingdom tested positive for COVID-19 upon their return to the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently visited former Lagos
State Governor Bola Tinubu in London; the visit sparked reactions on social
media platforms.
In a television interview, President Buhari's Special
Assistant on Media and Public relations, Femi Adesina, said his boss did not
visit the former governor to discuss the 2023 elections.
Adesina said Buhari's visit to Tinubu was merely a goodwill
gesture he expressed following disclosures about the former Lagos governor's
current health.
The presidential aide argued that it was too early for the
president to endorse any candidate, adding that it was difficult to accept
everything being circulated on social media about Tinubu's health.
