Billionaire kidnapper: Evans arms dealer sentenced to 5 years in prison

Billionaire kidnapper Evans and his arms dealer Udeme Upong face up to five years in prison for illegally selling arms to the kidnap kingpin.

The judge who handed down the sentence yesterday, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, Ikeja Special Offences Court, had enough evidence to make his decision.

Upong, the illegal arms dealer, is one of the accomplices of the kidnapper, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike (Evans). Other co-accused are Joseph Ikenna Emeka and Chiemeka Arinze, who is also charged with seven counts of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to kidnap, and sale of firearms before Justice Taiwo.

They were accused of attempting to kidnap Vincent Obianodo, chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.

However, at the resumption of the trial yesterday, Upong informed the court through his lawyer A. B. Josiah that he intended to change his plea from "not guilty" to "guilty."

Justice Taiwo then directed the prosecution to review the facts of the case.
