American R&B singer Robert Sylvester Kelly, known
professionally as R. Kelly was convicted twice this year of s*x crimes, and has
been ordered by a federal judge to pay at least $300,000 in compensation to
some of his victims.
U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly told a hearing in Brooklyn
that the money will be used to compensate two women named Jane and Stephanie
for the cost of therapy and herpes treatment.
Once Stephanie's prescription costs are recalculated by
prosecutors, that amount will likely increase, they say.
After a jury found Kelly guilty of racketeering and other
offenses, Donnelly sentenced him to 30 years in prison in June.
At his sentencing, Kelly was called the "Pied Piper of
R&B" when he confronted several of his victims who described his
decades of "deplorable and inexplicable" abuse.
According to prosecutors, the 55-year-old Kelly used his
fame and fortune over more than two decades to lure women and underage girls to
have s*x with him.
