In a renewed effort to rid the Dangote Group of unscrupulous drivers who engage in illegal transportation and others who pose a danger to other road users, the company's driver patrol team has arrested several drivers and handed them over to the relevant authorities.

Dangote's management recently asked for the public's help in apprehending truck drivers who carry out illegal transport.

In response, the company announced an enticing cash reward for any citizen who provides information that leads to the arrest of these lawless individuals by law enforcement.

Among other things, the team recently arrested and turned over to police both a driver and his fully loaded truck transporting illegal timber in the country's North Central Zone.

The driver was subsequently charged with criminal breach of trust in a magistrate's court in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in a correctional facility. While the presiding judge ordered that the truck and cargo be turned over to the company and owner, respectively, he advised the company to file a civil suit against the owner of the goods.

Also in the Southwest Region, the patrol team recently noticed a foreign truck with the Dangote logo parked at the yard of a private company in Ode Remo, Ogun State, while unloading granite stones. The team reported the case at the Ode Remo police station and had both the driver and the truck arrested. The driver was also charged to court.

The Dangote drivers' patrol team made several other arrests and handed over the offending drivers to the police and other relevant authorities for prosecution.

Dangote management has therefore renewed warnings to those illegally transporting materials on Dangote trucks, assuring that such unauthorized goods will be confiscated, while such drivers and owners will face the full force of the law.

A statement issued by Dangote Industries Limited and signed by Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, said, "The management of Dangote Industries Limited seeks the support of the public in the fight against illegal transportation perpetrated by some unscrupulous individuals."

To clarify its position, the management listed its products and goods that its more than 10,000 trucks can transport throughout the country and neighboring West African countries.

It explained, "Dangote Trucks are only allowed to transport the following materials. Dangote Cement Plc - Dangote Cement, Limestone, High-Grade Gypsum, and Coal; Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc - Dangote Sugar; NASCON Allied Industries Plc - Dangote Salt & DanQ Seasoning; and Dangote Packaging Limited - Bags.

"We hereby caution the public to report any suspected Dangote truck driver involved in illegal transportation who can provide credible evidence of such an act," the statement added.

While the police and other law enforcement agencies are empowered to arrest any Dangote truck driver and vehicle involved in such illegal activities, the company's management urged the public to help in this action for the greater good.
