Famous Nigerian comedian and actor Bright Okpocha, known by his stage name Basketmouth, has questioned the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, about the low chances of conviction for politically exposed persons in the country.
This came after recent protests by youths in Warri, Delta State, and Ibadan against unwarranted arrests and extortion by the anti-fraud agency that had nothing to do with cybercrime.
Reacting to the actions, Bawa noted that the move will not stop the agency from arresting anyone who causes or encourages fraud in the country.
Basketmouth, in his Instagram story, questioned the EFCC chief for not arresting corrupt leaders who are causing economic disaster in Abuja, the agency's headquarters.
He said, "Great! This is great news and I support it, but what about those who caused the economic disaster: They are running free in the same Abuja. Charity starts at home, that's all I'm saying."
The comedian also shared screenshots of news stories from the past in which various government employees failed to account for the money entrusted to them and yet walked free.
The first screenshot reads, "NDDC Acting MD, Pondei shuns Reps over alleged misuse of N39b."
The second screenshot reads, "Nigeria's vice president says $15 billion stolen in arms procurement scam"; and the third reads, "Nigerian snake ate millions of naira"
Basketmouth, on the other hand, wrote: "I suggest we build some animal prisons, their own is too much."
