Famotemi Toluwani Timothy, a disc jockey from Ekiti State, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, for allegedly impersonating popular hip-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable.
He was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, according to Wilson Uwujaren, head of the media and public relations department of the anti-fraud agency, on Wednesday.
Timothy, who hails from Igede-Ekiti in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State, allegedly opened an Instagram account under the name "Zazu Omolalomi Portable" where he claimed to be the singer.
The statement said the investigation revealed that the suspect met one of his victims, Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, who runs a club in Offa, Kwara State, on social media, introduced himself as "Portable" and offered to perform at the club for the sum of N1 million.
The suspect demanded that 80 percent of the money be paid before the event and Adebayo reportedly paid the sum of N790,000 into an account number provided by the suspect.
However, the self-styled "Portable" artist failed to show up for the event, which took place on February 18, 2022, and eventually blocked all communication channels with the suspect.
"The suspect will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed,".
