Tems wins the prestigious "Impact Prize" at the BMI Awards in London

Sensational Afrobeats singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi "Tems" has rounded off her record-breaking year with one of the most prestigious prizes at the annual BMI London Awards.

She won the Impact Prize, which recognizes leading songwriters, composers, and music publishers in the UK and Europe.

The BMI Film & TV Awards are presented annually by U.K. collecting society Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and honor songwriters, composers, and music publishers in a variety of genres.

Tems joins British singer/songwriter RAYE and British-Nigerian singer/songwriter Arlo Parks as artists who have previously received the award. The BMI Impact Award is presented to a songwriter/producer/composer for their artistry, creative vision, and impact on the future of music.

"This year's Impact Award goes to @Temsbaby for their groundbreaking artistry, creative vision, and impact on the future of music! Congratulations! We can't wait to see what happens next! #BMILondonAwards."

Tems met and took a photo with BMI President's Award recipient, English singer-songwriter Elle Goulding. She also received a BMI certificate along with Wizkid and his producer P2J for the huge success of "Essence," which won in the pop category for songwriting.

Both "Essence" and the Justin Bieber-assisted remix were awarded in recognition of the song's success.

2022 has been a successful year for Tems, and the BMI Impact Award adds to her record streak this year after reaching new heights and Billboard chart records with her contributions to Wizkid's "Essence," Drake's "Fountain," Future's "Wait For U" and Beyoncé's "Move."

Tems is a two-time BET Award winner and was nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards. She was also nominated for the Best Global Music Performance Award at the 64th Grammys for the global hit "Essence" alongside Afrobeats superstar Wizkid and American pop star Justin Beiber.

In 2022, she appeared on the soundtrack of Marvel Studios' latest production: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
