"It is dangerous to underestimate Russia," NATO warns

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has warned the United States and its allies not to underestimate Russia in the ongoing war against Ukraine.

Stoltenberg made the remarks Thursday at an economic conference in Oslo, Norway, Reuters reports.

He said it was dangerous to underestimate Russian President Vladimir Putin's ambitions in the war in Ukraine.

"They have shown a great willingness to accept losses and suffering," Stoltenberg said.

"We have no evidence that President Putin has changed his plans and objectives in Ukraine." "So it is dangerous to underestimate Russia."

Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, when Putin said his country was seeking the "demilitarization and denazification" of Ukraine.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has counted a total of 6,919 civilian deaths since the war began.
